We had no makom.
לא היה לנו מקום.
Every Shabbos, dozens of yungeleit sat in the ezras noshim, or outside the shul.
ישבנו מידי שבת עשרות אברכים בעזרת הנשים, או מחוץ לבית הכנסת.
We came to a new givah in Beitar Illit as young families, far from the city's established central shuls. At first we met for a Daf Yomi shiur and for shiurim from the Rav of the Kehillah, HaRav Yosef Rubin shlita, and very quickly we understood that we needed a makom of our own, a kehillah open to all, with one simple condition: during tefillah we guard the honor and kedusha of the makom. After months of wandering and davening in the home of one of the chaverim, on Shabbos Zachor 5784 we finally merited to open the door of our own shul.
הגענו לגבעה חדשה בביתר עילית כמשפחות צעירות, רחוק מבתי הכנסת הוותיקים והמרכזיים בעיר. נפגשנו בהתחלה לשיעור דף היומי ולשיעורי תורה מפי רב הקהילה, הרב יוסף רובין שליט״א, ומהר מאוד הבנו שאנחנו צריכים מקום משלנו, קהילה שפתוחה לכולם, עם תנאי אחד פשוט: בתפילה שומרים על כבוד וקדושת המקום. אחרי חודשים של נדודים ותפילות אצל אחד מחברי הקהילה, זכינו בשבת זכור תשפ״ד לפתוח סוף סוף את הדלת של בית הכנסת שלנו.
